friendship

Image
I believe friendship is one of the most important things in my life. Real friendship is a spiritually developing experience. Sometimes in life, you find a special friend. Someone who changes your life just by being a part of it. Someone who makes you laugh until you can't stop. Someone who makes you believe that there really is good in the world. Someone who convinces you that there really is an unlocked door just waiting for you to open it. This is forever friendship. When you're down and the world seems dark and empty, your forever friend lifts you up in spirit and makes that dark and empty world suddenly seem bright and full. Your forever friend gets you through the hard times, the sad times and the confused times. If you turn and walk away, your forever friend follows. If you lose your way, your forever friend guides you and cheers you on. Your forever friend holds your hand and tells you that everything is going to be okay. And if you find such a friend, you feel happy and

making a difference with movies

Image
Have you heard of FilmAid International? The founder, Caroline Baron, is a movie producer. She convinced of the idea for Filmaid in 1999 when she heard a report on a radio program about refugees. The broadcast said people in refuge camps had food and shelter, but many of them were depressed because they had nothing to to. So Caroline brought movies to the camps from Kosovo , Kenya, Tanzania, Pakistan, Afghanistan. Many refugees have seen appalling sight. The movies gave them something else to think about. The organization chooses nonviolent, family-oriented films. Beside that, it also shows educational films about topics to refugee life, such as AIDS and so on. The movies communicate ideas to large groups much easier than fliers do. Caroline said " Of course food and shelter are the first need to be met, but people need more to survive. Seeing a film opens people's minds, inspires them and gives them hope." For more information, please refer to their website: filmaid .

street performing

Image
Street performing in the USA is a very popular kind of art. From the Wenes Bank in Los . to the Times Square in New York, it attracts part-time musicians, dancers and mimes in the towns of the USA, no matter or big. The performers often put a hat or opened instrument for collecting money from the watchers. In fact ,most of these performers are college students who are thirst to perform for audience. Although in some cities, it is forbidden to perform in the public like this, there is not such kind of law being obeyed whether it is full of hoax. When the performance is over, the performers will be rewarded zealous applause , and even some young girls will dance with the applause.Of course, the money is better.

three passions

Three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, have governed my life: the longing for love, the search for knowledge, and unbearable pity for the suffering of mankind. These passions, like great winds, have blown me hither and thither, in a wayward course, over a deep ocean of anguish, reaching to the very verge of despair. I have sought love, first, because it brings ecstasy –ecstasy so great that I would often have sacrificed all the rest of life for a few hours of this joy. I have sought it, next, because it relieves loneliness--that terrible loneliness in which one shivering consciousness looks over the rim of the world into the cold unfathomable lifeless abyss. I have sought it, finally, because in the union of love I have seen, in a mystic miniature, the prefiguring vision of the heaven that saints and poets have imagined. This is what I sought, and though it might seem too good for human life, this is what- at last- I have found. With equal passion I have sought knowledge. I

why do l like reading literature

Image
I am fond of reading literature, although I am engineering student. By it, I could get a lot of fun and enjoyable time. Someone maybe argue that it is possible to kill time. Of course not. Literature not only provides pleasure for me in my spare time, but also shows me the reality, kindness and beauty of the world. It is literature that teaches me to face all kinds of difficulties and mischiefs. Different from technical books and journalism, literature does not present knowledge or information of science and technology, nor does it narrate the daily news or event. Values as works of arts, literature includes drama, fiction, essay, poetry and biography. Reading these literary forms can broaden our version and enrich our knowledge, especially the understanding toward the history of our own country, the culture of other countries ,and the development of the whole world, hence makes us a full man. Every literary form has its own benefit for us. For example, from reading drams and essays, we

no smoking in indoor public places

Image
From the beginning of this month, Hong Kong extended it smoking ban to all indoor areas--workplaces, public areas, restaurants, bars, and karaoke lounges < a public living room, a lobby >. Those who break the rule could face serious punishment. In fact, smoking bans can be seen around the world, in South Africa, New Zealand, Italy, Ireland and some parts of the US. Plus, UK will introduce the ban in 2007. So, what about the mainland? Many no-smokers say they would welcome a decision to save them from passive smoking. While, it is obvious the smokers will say no to such a kind of ban. The smokers believe that it is their rights where to go and where to sit. The ban mean they on longer be any freedom of choice. What is more, heavy smokers are unlikely to give up. If they have no public place to go, they prefer to stay home and have bad effect on their children. Some even argue the business of entertainment places will be driven out of. However, it is on doubt that smoking is dang

how happy are you right now?

Chris Gardner ( Will Smith ) is a bright and talented, but marginally employed salesman. Struggling to make ends meet, Gardner finds himself and his five-year-old son evicted from their San Francisco apartment with nowhere to go. When Gardner lands an internship at a prestigious stock brokerage firm, he and his son endure many hardships, including living in shelters, in pursuit of his dream of a better life for the two of them. --- the pursuit of happyness In the beginning of 2007, a touching movie cheered me greatly. How happy are you right now? Do you even know? More exactly, what is happiness? Can you explain it correctly in your own words or feelings? In the movie, when Chris's wife was going to leave him, he thought of a celebrity and pondered that: Maybe happiness is something that we can only pursue. Maybe we can actually never have it, no matter what. But, it is difficult to experience moments of happiness if we are not aware of what it is we genuinely love. Most people

amazing grace

Image
Judy Collins, American Amazing grace! How sweet the sound! That saved a wretch like me! I once was lost but now am found, Was blind but now I see. T'was grace that taught my heart to fear And grace my fears relieved; How precious did that grace appear The hour I first believed! Through many dangers, toils, and snares, I have already come; Tis grace has brought me safe thus far, And grace will lead me home. The Lord has promised good to me, His word my hope secures; He will my shield and portion be, As long as life endures. Yes, when this flesh and heart shall fail, And mortal life shall cease; I shall possess, within the vail, A life of joy and peace. The earth shall soon dissolve like snow, The sun forbear to shine; But God, who called me here below, Will be forever mine

Do you still remember your first time being loved by someone?

My memory took me back to primary school when I was in the forth grade. At that time, I was monitor in my class and loved by my teachers and classmates. I was just like the General to lead my classmates to hold together and study hard. Sometimes , Our girls would boycotted the boys, quarrelling with them. Granted, we could not fight with them. We were not their counter workers . One day, after class, I and my girls were playing games in the playground. A boy who was in the fifth grade came up, gave me a card and ran away quickly. Other boys around kicked up a row, saying" **loved **, **loved**``````". I felt so humiliated in front of my classmates. At that period , "love" is a dirty and ashamed word for us. We all felt shy and guilty to talk about the word of love. I shocked and nearly stunned at first. Fortunately , the bell was ringing and it was time for class. We rushed into the classroom. During the whole class, I could not listen to what my teacher was say

my impossible mission--buying train ticket

The peak transport on the train in the spring festival ( chunyun 春运 ) is the particular and special phenomena in China. Every year before and after the spring festival, China's railways will carry about 140million people to various places. The majority will be migrant workers ( 民工 ) and students. Students seem luckier than the migrant workers because of their privileges. They can book a ticket 12 days( Hangzhou, other cities may be different ) in advance versus 11days for migrant workers. However, for those from provinces with a lot of labourers, such as Anhui , Sichuan , Jiangxi , Henan , Shaanxi , most in the westsouth and westnorth , getting a ticket can mean a lot more effort. According to the government , " No price increases during this year's spring festival ". In fact, it is a only word game. It is harder and more difficult to get a ticket. Most of the tickets have been flowed into the scalpers ( 黄牛 )or agencies. Yesterday , I got up at 4a.m. to get the r

Robots of the world

The idea of the robot was invented by a Czech (捷克) playwright ( a perosn who writes plays) called Karel Capek back in 1921. The word "robot" means "work" in the Czech language, and that is what they are intended to do. Back in 2004 there were two million robots in use worldwide. the International Federation of Robotics says this figure will rise to eight million by the end of 2007. The Japan Robot Association predicts that by the year of 2025 there will be a personal robot industry worth over US50 billion per year worldwide. By now, Japan is the biggest country to develop and purchase the robots. The year of 2006 was the year of the robot. We saw the development of robots that could taste wine, race a car, teach children how to move and stop old people from feeling lonely. If we look at the kind of projects already underway , we can predict that robots will be providing physical assistance and even companionship for the elderly, helping people with disabilities get
